Now that you have decided to have a DJ at your wedding, now you need to know where to look and what to look for! Although it may seem simple to find a DJ for your wedding, there are a few things you need to know or consider beforehand. For example, you wouldn’t want to hire a DJ who has a different music taste than what you’re looking for, or hire a DJ who may or may not show up to your wedding!

So you’ve made a list of things you want in your wedding DJ, now onto the exciting part, finding your perfect DJ! Although you can do a quick Google or Instagram search and find thousands of DJs online, we recommend looking where the professionals are. Below are some sites that you can look for different types of wedding services, including DJs! Friends and family can also be great for recommending a DJ for your wedding, but be careful of going with someone you know. You may have a friend, cousin, or someone you know who is a DJ so you automatically go with them, or you feel guilty and choose them instead.
If they are perfect for your wedding, that’s great! But make sure that if you decide this, you are not letting the relationship be the decision-maker but instead their qualifications. Friend or not, having a contract that specifically spells out your obligations and theirs is a must! If they have your best interest in mind, they won’t hesitate to make you feel as comfortable as possible!
Do Some Digging!
You found a DJ or two that you like, do some digging! Make sure you check them out on social media as well, since a lot of their events will most likely be posted there. See if there are any recent reviews, what their personality is, how they treat weddings online (are they posting inappropriate photos on Instagram etc.).
If you happen to see a DJ at a friend or family’s wedding or event you attended, reach out to the host after the event and ask about who they hired!
Make Sure Your DJ Has a Contract
Contacts, contracts, contracts! Don’t make any plans until you have a signed contract with your DJ. This makes sure all of the deliverables are clearly written and understood by both parties. All of your questions (and more) will be outlined in the contract, making sure that you and your DJ are on the same page, giving you one less thing to worry about!
Find Someone Who Understands Your Style
As we said earlier, your wedding is all about you and your partner, and the music played at your wedding needs to reflect that! Your DJ’s music taste should align with your personality and music style, asking them what their music taste is and what types of music they enjoy playing at weddings is a great way to know if they are the right DJ for you!
A tip to keep you less stressed, ask your DJ for a master playlist or itinerary before your wedding so you can both be on the same page!
